Abstract: We derive a multiple scattering (MS) framework for core-level EELS and (e,2e)

spectroscopies. In this real space approach, we consider MS for all electrons,

in contrast to the XAS-like model of the literature where only the excited electron is treated

within the MS formalism.  Our model is targeted at experiments

where all the electrons involved have low kinetic energies so that they are very sensitive

to surface properties. We also show that the EELS cross-section can be recovered from

the (e,2e) cross-section by the use of the optical theorem.
